To honor Gertrud Henderson (Trudy), please consider donating to one of the following non-profits supporting local zoos she cherished or helping families in need.
Conserve Global Wildlife
It will forever be remembered as “The Wild Animal Park” to us, the now renamed San Diego Zoo Safari Park was Trudy’s favorite place to visit while she lived in Escondido. She loved to watch and giggle at the monkeys with daughter, Denise. When her grandchildren Bridget and Melonie came to visit from Northern California during the 80’s, she would take them here to learn about wildlife and burn off kid energy. Better to monkey around here than her second story apartment! It held an extra special place in her heart in remembrance of Michelle MacPherson.
San Diego Zoo Global is a not-for-profit organization that operates the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The mission of San Diego Zoo Global is to save species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal and plant care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature. There are many ways to donate from funding a new animal exhibit or wildlife conservation, to adopting an animal in her name.
Conserve Desert Wildlife
The Living Desert was a place Trudy enjoyed while living in her final home Palm Desert, CA. She spoke of the zoo with great local pride and would take family visiting from out of town every chance she could get. It became a holiday tradition to see the WildLights Christmas light display with daughter Joan and husband Stan. Her favorite exhibits were the butterfly garden, model trains, mountain lion, and bighorn sheep. She loved it here so much that she volunteered for years at the Children’s Discovery Center selling souvenirs to kids on field trips.
The Living Desert’s mission is desert conservation through preservation, education and appreciation. Support Trudy’s appreciation of desert wildlife by donating a tribute or adopting an animal.
